One of my favorite types of scrapbooking layouts is a review layout. The review may cover a month, week, vacation or just a day in the life. I like these types of layouts for a couple reasons – in some cases I feel like I can tell a more complete story like with a review layout about vacation or soccer season. Other times I am feeling really, really behind in my scrapbooking plans and making a review layout helps me feel caught up.
A review layout doesn’t have to be complicate or even have a lot of pictures. Today I have 2 layouts to share with you. Both are yearend review layouts and they even use the same Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper and similar embellishments! But instead of telling my story with lots of pictures – I used 1 photo per scrapbook page. Yes only 1 photo! The story is all in the journaling. I know what you’re thinking – how much journaling did I write to cover an entire year?? I used a year end question template! I found this great little template for my kids at todaysmama.com. It’s a printable year end time capsule questionnaire! I had my kids fill out the questions and used their paper as the focal point of my layouts!
Let’s take a look at the layouts! These time capsule questionnaires are from 2011. My older daughter filled hers out all by herself.
As you can see I made no corrections, etc to what she wrote. I wanted it to capture her at that moment. The picture is from around the same time as when she filled out the form. Here’s a close-up of the pennants. I used the pennant builder punch to make the banner.
My mother-in-law helped my younger daughter with hers. Isn’t it cute – she likes everything because they are beautiful – so sweet!
Morgan’s layout was embellished with all different butterflies. I used the Big Shot and some punches to create all the butterflies. I embellished them with some simple baker’s twine, pearls, and buttons.
So give a time capsule approach to your next review layout and let a questionnaire be your focal point. I have 1 more layout to complete for my son – I have it started, just need to add the embellishments but it will look very similar to the 2 layouts above!
