This past weekend I went to a baby shower for one of my college roommates. I am so excited to meet her little bundle of joy! He should make his debut in early March. I created an adorable (if I do say so myself) scrapbook for my friend. All she needs to do is add the photos and any journaling.
To create my baby shower gift, I used the Polka Dot Party 6x6 designer album along with the Nursery Nest DSP and Quick Accents. The Polka Dot Party album comes with 10 page protectors.

Isn’t this paper just darling?! It is so cute – perfect for this little album. Let’ check out the album. Here is the cover.

To dress up the cover I tied a big bow with the Marina Mist 1-1/4” striped grosgrain ribbon. Around the bow knot I used some Pear Pizzazz stitched poly ribbon and tied a trinket key to it. I used the key to represent the “key” to his mommy’s heart.
When creating a themed album pick a color or two that will be your focus. And then use a 3rd color as an accent. For this project deciding which colors I would use was pretty easy – of course I had to use Marina Mist since my friend is expecting a baby boy and I used the Pear Pizzazz because my friend loves green. Both of these colors are in the Nursery Nest designer series paper. My accent color was Whisper White.
You can see how this comes together on the first page of the album.

To create the layered labels for the album title I used the new Labels Collection Framelits die. After I cut out the larger Whisper White label I then embossed it with the Perfect Polka Dot embossing folder. The cute little owl was made with the Owl Builder punch.
One thing to consider when creating a gift album is to create 3 or 4 layouts and then repeat those design either exactly the same or with other coordinating papers. By repeating the layout designs the album will have a flow and cohesiveness. Plus it makes your job easier because you don’t have to come up with 20 different page designs. This Nursery Nest 6x6 baby album came together in an afternoon. Let’s take a look at some of the layouts.

By keeping the design simple my friend can include up to 6 photos but she has lots of options…she can use anyone of those blocks for journaling. Plus I gave her all of the left over supplies from the Nursery Nest Quick Accents and DSP so after she includes her journaling and photos she can embellish the pages some more if she would like too.

On these pages she can include two 3x5 photos and 3 smaller photos. Again the design is simple to give her lots of options.

When you are creating a gift album one thing to keep in mind when over lapping elements is do not adhere items down completely. For example with the above layout I did not adhere the left side of the white owl tag. That way she can insert a photo behind the tag. If I had adhered the tag she would have to do some creative cropping to insert a photo on the Marina Mist mat.

For this layout the major design element was taken from the Nursery Nest designer series paper. One of the 12x12 papers had those 2 cute birds. I used the birds as my focus and just added a square journaling block from the Quick Accents.

Since this album is only 6x6 it can be challenging to create layouts that have a bunch of photos. And you know how it is when you have a new baby – you take lots and lots of pictures. To remedy this challenge I created the above layout with pockets. To create the pockets I didn’t adhere the patterned paper on the top, only the sides and bottom. Now my friend can add up to 8 more photos to this layout!
I love how this baby boy album came out – don’t you! I didn’t want to give it away – lol! I’d love to know what you think of the album, leave a comment and let me know.
Happy scrapping!
