Whether you are going to a crop for a few hours or you are going for a whole weekend, planning ahead is the key for a fun-filled and productive crop. I thought it would be helpful to create a blog series that covers what I do to prepare for a full weekend crop: Friday morning through Sunday afternoon. This series will occur in “real-time.” The principles work for whatever length crop you are going to. I am going to the NJ Crop Weekends Spring Crop from May 20-22. Download 11SpringCropWeekend registration form – approximately 4 weeks away.
In my last blog post regarding planning for a crop weekend, I shared how I create a “to-do” list of the products I would like to complete. The items on my list are in no particular order. As I think if things I write them down on my list. My actual list is in a notebook. Here is my current list:
- Prep Ladies Night Out card class
- Prep May stamp a stack of cards class
- Make thank you cards for Morgan’s 3rd birthday
- Complete Morgan’s 1st year layout
- 1st day of kindergarten: Timmy & Madison -- Sept 2010

- Swaps for convention – goal 75

- Tennis camp – Tim, Madison Aug 2010
- Work on mini scrapbooks for Daisies
- All 6 cousins, Aug 2010 – 1 for each kid, 1 5x7 pic each
- Organize pics
As you can see my list is pretty long. And there is no way I’ll get all of this done in one weekend. So my next steps are to narrow down the list to what I would really like to get done that weekend. Some of the reasons I use to narrow down my list are:
- Upcoming deadlines (birthday parties, graduations, classes, etc)
- New products I really want to use
- Technique I’d like to try
- Pictures I really want to scrap
Most of the items on my list are from last summer, fall, and beginning of winter. There are work related items as well which are time sensitive. As I look at the list, I see some things that I could probably group together in a summary layout. I also see items that I’d like to keep separate in a standalone layout. So my game plan will be to complete layouts from the summer and fall of 2010. I am picking this time frame because in just a few weeks it will be summer 2011 and I’d like to feel “caught up” [although as a scrapbooker, I don’t think I’ll ever be caught up – lol]. Here are the projects I plan on working on:
Organize pics
Work related projects:
o Prep June Ladies Night Out card class
o Prep May stamp a stack of cards class
o Make thank you cards for Morgan’s 3rd birthday
o Swaps for convention – goal 75 (goal for crop, come up with 2 or 3 samples)
o Plan hostess appreciation workshop
Gift/party related projects
o Work on/complete mini scrapbooks for Daisies
o Make thank you cards for Morgan’s 3rd birthday
Layouts - traditional
o Finish Halloween LO – Timmy & Madison – 2010
o Complete Morgan’s 1st year layout
o All 6 cousins, Aug 2010 – 1 for each kid, 1 5x7 pic each
o 1st day of kindergarten: Timmy & Madison -- Sept 2010
o Madison ballet recital – June 2010 – use paper got for Christmas from Greg
o Madison eye surgery – Aug 2009, Aug 2010
Layouts – My Digital Studio
o Review – summer 2010 – all 3 kids
o Thanksgiving 2010 -- separate LO about carving turkey
o Fall season (Sept-Nov 2010) – include highlights from soccer, pumpkin picking, etc
o Complete Timmy with frog – July 2010
Ok so my list is still pretty ambitious but I have a game plan. From here I’ll go through my photos order any reprints or enlargements that I need. Once I know what photos I have I’ll start sketching out my traditional layouts. I won’t do this prep for the layouts I plan on completely digitally. I will determine if I want a multi-photo layout or just a single photo. Concurrently I will make notes regarding color schemes, embellishments I’d like to use, and techquies I’d like to try on the layout. If I don’t have the items on hand, I’ll order/purchase those items. I do all over this over the next 2 weeks.
So check back in 2 weeks for the next post in this series when we discuss my next steps.
Happy scrapping!
Jessica
